Tips For Vacation Rentals
The word vacation means different things to different people. To some, the word vacation conjures up visions of fun in the sun and as much relation as possible. To others it means jam packed time away from work with as much activity as possible. Then there are those who strike a balance in between the two when the word vacation is spoken. No matter what thoughts the word vacation presents you with, it all means one thing: time to make the reservations for that all important vacation rental.
If you are going to rent a house or cottage or even book a hotel room for a vacation, planning cannot start too early. Some begin planning their vacation as much as a year in advance, especially if they want to rent a particular house or cottage at the beach. Some even plan their next vacation while on vacation. Nice places with reasonable rent will go quickly and who wants to be left out when it is time to spend some time away. Once you have decided where to go, the real work begins.
Even if you are planning to vacation close to home, it might be helpful to work through a real estate agent to find the right kind of place to rent. It is possible to set up the rental yourself, but if you are not close enough to check out the accommodations yourself beforehand, it could be chancy renting a private home or cottage sight unseen. There is no guarantee a real estate agent will do any better but the odds are in your favor that it will work out just fine. Establish a budget for your vacation and be realistic. It will not be any fun to plan a vacation and not be able to afford it.
When renting a cottage or house or even a long term motel there are a few things to consider and ask about before signing on the dotted line to rent. Will bedding and towels be provided or is that something the renting customer has to bring? Will it be necessary to bring cook and diner ware if cooking is available or will those be provided? The same goes for beach and lawn chairs, beach towels, grill for cooking out and lawn games for the kids and adults? Is vehicular parking available and if so, how many vehicles can be parked at the cottage or house? Will the available parking also accommodate guests?
Getting the key for access to the property is almost always tricky. Sometimes the renter is required to pick up the key from an agent or the owner themselves. The same for returning keys when it is time to go home. Are the keys returned in the same manner as when picked up? Some property renters will have a drop box for key return and sometimes for key pick up, as well.
