Planning A Summer Vacation
If you and your family are making plans for your summer vacation, you may want to take in some 4th of July celebrations in during your travels. Even if you won’t be going to far from home this year, there is most likely plenty to do in your city or state. And, you and your family can come up with your own ideas for 4th of July celebrations that the whole family will enjoy.
Fourth of July fireworks are always a favorite, and there are usually a few places in your city that are having a fireworks display on the evening of July 4th. You can take the whole family, and this event is usually free. All you’ll need to do is ride in a vehicle that has enough space for the family to sit in the back, or take along some lawn chairs so you can watch the fireworks comfortably. It may also be a good idea to invite more friends and family to come along, and pack some snacks that will make the display more enjoyable. Fresh fruits that include red, white, and blue colors are always festive, and taking some sparkling cider or grape juice, or a bottle of champagne to share with friends at the fireworks finale will make the event more special.
You may also want to take in 4th of July celebrations in the city that will give you and your children more historical information about the holiday. There are a number of museums that display artifacts and documents surrounding Independence Day during this time of year, so be sure to check your city’s directory for events. Cities like Boston and New York have a number of exhibits that will teach children about the Constitution, as well as guided tours of landmarks in the area that have historical significance. If you’re spending the Fourth of July in southern states like Georgia or South Carolina, you can visit a number of exhibits that will give you a glimpse of the clothing that was worn during the 1776 period, as well as information on children’s activities and political practices during that time.
If you’re looking to stay active this Fourth of July, you can also participate in a walk or run event in your city. This will help you to jumpstart or maintain your workout plan, and the registration fee that you’ll pay for the event will most likely go to a local or national charity. After your walk, you can gather with the family again to take in 4th of July celebrations like the Annual Parade, which usually includes fun activities like face painting and outdoor games for children.
