Find A European Villa (Here)

Where can tourists enjoy year round sunshine in Europe? It’s a bit of a trick question. As whilst the Canary Islands are Spanish owned and part of the European Union they are in fact located just eighty miles off the coast of West Africa. Hundreds of miles south of the European continent.  Creating a climate that is warm and temperate all year round.

*Island History*

Lanzarote is the most easterly of these seven islands and was the first in the Canaries to be conquered by the Spanish crown in the early 1400´s. Its name deriving from that of Lanceloto Malocello – an Italian adventurer who reportedly visited Lanzarote in 1312.

Today the bulk of the visitors originate from the UK, Eire and Ireland.
And spend their holidays in Lanzarote in one of the three main resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise or Playa Blanca.

*Places To Stay*

There’s a wide range of accommodation choices available to visitors on the island. The best hotels in Lanzarote are all located in and around Playa Blanca, which is located in the south. Just across the Bocaina Straits from near neighbour Fuerteventura.

Whilst self catering accommodation options such as Lanzarote villas
and apartments are very popular with independent travellers who prefer to construct their own holiday packages on the internet. Prices start from around £400 per week for a standard two bedroom villa with private pool.

*How To Get There*

Flights to Lanzarote are available via a number of low cost operators.
Such as easy Jet who have recently added a new service from Liverpool John Lennon International. The flight time to Lanzarote is four hours.

*Things To See*

No visitor to Lanzarote should pass on the opportunity to visit the Timanfaya National Park. As this is the islands best known sight and is in many ways central to formulating an understanding of Lanzarote and its culture.

From 1730 to 1736 three hundred new volcanoes burst from the ground and covered the south of the island in lava. Today this area looks like another planet altogether.

For those who prefer gentler and more traditional holiday scenery the island is home to around 85 beaches. Some of them amongst the most beautiful in the Canaries. Such as the huge bay at Famara and the coves at Papagayo. All of which are made up of golden sand – rather than the black gains common to other Canary Islands.
