As the summer progresses it is difficult to recall all the wonderful areas in the United Kingdom that are worth visiting more than once. There are so many destinations that are perfectly suited to the weekend or week traveller. After much discussion at the office we have decided that Lake District Cottages provide the greatest range of outdoor activities for the reasonably active family.

Why would I consider The Lake District as the place to visit after our considerations? It’s dead easy of course: with the superb scenery, nearlly all of which can be walked or climbed it provides such a fantastic range of opportunities.

For example… By staying in pet friendly Lake District Cottages near Windermere or Kendal you will open up the whole of Lake District. It doesn’t take much more than an hour to get from the eastern,busier side, of the lake district to the quieter western edge. The M6 motorway makes access to the northern Lakes almost impossible to ignore and it is possible therefore to enjoy the whole Lake District in one day; a long one though!!

What happens if you aren’t the strongest walker or climber? The Lake District is so easy to access utilising cars, buses and of course boats that there really isn’t any excuse not to enjoy this beautiful area.

The Lake District National Park was, I think, the swecond national park to be enshrined in law in the UK. All the national parks in the UK are included in legislation that protects them from the unscrupulous developer. The outcome of this strict regime is that the whole ethos of the National Park is maintained for future generations.

The lakes of the Lake District wouldn’t of course be popular if it wasn’t for the pleasure craft and the self driven craft that can be used on the lakes. Windermere, which is now a lot quieter due to the introduction of a speed limit, is a perfect place to take a first introduction to all waterborn sports. It is still possible to learn to water ski, as a child. It is also possible to learn to sail with the numerous sailing schools around the Lake. Most of these sailing colleges put up their sailors in nearby Lake District Cottages.

If a simple but really enjoyable holiday is what is required to burn away those down feelings, then one needs to look no farther than a holiday in the North West. The Lake District has so much to offer that it musn’t be forgotten and really should be at the top of everyone’s list of destinations.
