A very popular place for going on holiday in Europe is one of the Greek islands. One of those Greek islands that you may never of heard of is Kefalonia. I am not sure why it isn’t as popular as other islands but this gives you an advantage. You can make the most of it before Kefalonia holidays become the too popular.

Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian islands of Greece. It isnt a vast island and only has a population on about 45k. Apart form tourism, the main industries are growing olives and breeding animals.

The island is different from other islands in that it is quieter. Kefalonia holidays are not about partying, they are about relaxing. They have a number of wonderful beaches including the famous Myrtos beach. A lot of the postcards that you find around Greece have this beach on them.

In Kefalonia you will find a lot about culture, it isn’t just about spending time on the beach for your holidays in Kefalonia. Given Greece’s history this shouldn’t surprise you much. Many of the ruins originate from the 1st century B.C. and many ancient burial sites. If you want to learn about culture then this is a great place to do it.

You will also love Kefalonia if you like nature. You have some great mountains that you can explore and you may even stumble upon a lovely cave. There are lots of caves for you to find around the island. You may even see the elusive loggerhead turtle… but only if you are very lucky.

Much of the accommodation is the same as in most parts of Greece. The apartments are mostly clean and basic. Many are family businesses which means that the staff are very friendly which should add to the enjoyment.
